Hand-sculpted from brass, the Charan takes form through the metal repoussé tradition, its surfaces molded into the likeness of sacred feet and adorned with intricate symbolic detail. Drawing inspiration from the creation myths that frame Varanasi’s ancient beginnings, it is conceived as a vessel of memory and devotion - Tilfi’s homage to Banaras, the eternal muse and wellspring of the city’s craft traditions.

• Technique - Entirely handmade, repoussé is a testament to unparalleled skill and precision. The process begins with a malleable metal sheet, meticulously hammered from the reverse to create precise, raised patterns. With each strike, the artisans breathe life into the metal—layer by layer, form takes shape.

• Speciality - As told in the Vamana Purana, Varanasi was divinely conceived at the dawn of time by the cosmic being, Purusha. It is said that the two rivers Varuna and Asi originated from the feet of this primordial giant: the Varuna from his right foot and the Asi from his left. Between these two rivers lies the sacred land of Varanasi, revered as the ultimate place of pilgrimage. The Charan echoes this primordial myth, enshrining Banaras as creation, sanctity, and source.
