Spirit of Creations
The path of knowledge
The precise movement of the shuttle on the loom, the unspoken messages of a
handwoven pattern, the careful lead of a caring master... With Katha, Tilfi explores the multiple possibilities of classical artistry and reveals a surprising collection, playing with
contemporary patterns that translate into physical experiences.
A story. A narration. A fiction.
The Vedic Sanskrit word Katha took many forms throughout the centuries, to transform, later on, into one of the most famous Indian classical dance forms: Kathak.
Following a Kathak dance guru and his shishyas on their journey to mastery, Tilfi traces these tales of the past through the precise movements of the present.

Playful illusions
The Katha collection has been driven by a single pursuit: how can textiles translate the physical feeling of a textured surface on a flat fabric, conveying the impression that there is a shape to be felt when it can only be seen?
From weathered to marbled textures, the Katha sarees feature different patterns crafted through an original display of lines, colours, and shapes that give the perceived feeling of a surface. These different textures bring an organic life to contemporary designs, and playful patterns give a unique sense of depth to each piece of the collection.

Filmed as a documentary, the Katha campaign follows real dancers—Shreya, Vishal, Tania, and Ratnpriya, and their guru, Pandit Ravi Shankar Mishra, for a day in their regular practice. Through the art of the movement, stories are being told without words: hand movements, footwork, body flow and facial expressions became the favoured storytellers of unwritten stories.

The Picture Gallery
Tilfi’s Katha campaign is a kathakar’s tale, unbound by time, recollecting the story of a guru—teacher—and his shishyas—disciples—bound together by the underlying thread of transmission.
